After a cold day enjoying the wide-open spaces surrounding this rustic cottage, there’s nothing nicer than gathering round the fire to spend time with family, says Liz. Large expressive skies, tall grasses dancing in the winter’s breeze, and the gentle whup of bird’s wings flapping way up overhead; there’s a lot to fall in love with in this small hamlet in Brittany, northwestern France. ‘The landscape is very similar to where I grew up in Ireland, ’ says Liz, who not only fell under the bewitching spell of these wide-open spaces 20 years ago, but also of a handsome young man called Corentin, whose family owned the nearby restaurant at which a 19-year-old Liz was working to improve her French language skills.
